About Us

Johnson Elementary is a welcoming neighborhood ECE-5 school, proud to serve Harvey Park families and students with strong community support and high academic standards.

Mission, Vision and Values

At Johnson Elementary, it is our mission to build advocates for our community and our world.  Our mission rests on four central pillars defined below:

READY: I am responsible for myself, my learning and my community.

COMPELLED: My heart makes me want to do something positive.

COURAGEOUS:  I stand up for what is right.

INFORMED:  I grow by understanding myself, others and our shared experiences.

The Four Pillars and Five ‘BEs’ below represent the heart of what we value as a school community. We hope this document supports us in living our intention to interact with one another with increasing awareness and care, responsibility for our behavior, and ability to self-regulate. The Four Pillars and Five BEs were created through a collaboration between students, staff and administrators.

Providing the best possible education for our students is a social justice issue.  We will develop a culture that is committed to analyzing, critiquing and combating systems of oppression.  We will learn how to collectively liberate ourselves and others through a culture of power-with instead of power-over.  We will unlearn our own biases and how we perpetuate systems of oppression and call in others to do the same.  We will transform education into an act of freedom. We are devoted to the above practices so that children at Johnson will feel loved, cared for, celebrated and empowered to discover, develop, and contribute their own gift to the world

The five BEs are the habits we support students in learning and exhibiting, because these are the habits of advocates.
