Our School Improvement Plan
- School improvement at Johnson Elementary is focused on increased student achievement in a climate that promotes and supports Positive Behavior Systems (PBS).
- The Denver Plan as well as the commitment and exciting efforts through the CDE Title I School Improvement Grant will guide school Improvement with collaborative work by the staff, parents and the community.
- Staff and parents will play an integral role in establishing and living the Johnson vision, mission and goals.
- Collaboration and commitment will guide stake-holders toward reaching the goal of increased student achievement and maintaining a focused learning environment with a "Caring Community of Learners."
| High expectations will be upheld in order to:
- Focus on Instruction
- Assess student learning on a regular basis to guide instruction
- Focus on optimizing a rigorous curriculum
- Promote a positive learning environment which permeates the school in all facets
- Actively involve parents in their childrens education
Addressing the needs of all students in the Johnson community including linguistically and culturally diverse students and students with special needs, in a safe, responsible, respectful environment will be a major aspect in school reform. Parent, family and community involvement will be paramount in building a Caring Community of Learners.
Programs and services at Johnson Elementary include:
- Solid Academic Programming by highly qualified and licensed teachers and paraprofessionals.
- Licensed Staff to address Resource Technology, Visual Art, Physical Education and Music.
- Three sessions of Full-Day Kindergarten
- Early Childhood Education
- First and Second Language Development.
- Multicultural Education to promote acceptance
- Special needs services by licensed and qualified staff
- English as a Second Language
- Literacy Squared
- Lunchroom Literacy
- DPS Success After School Tutoring
Parent Involvement Organizations (Collaborative Decision Making Committee, Parent Advisory Committee and Parent Teacher Organization) ** Parental involvement is key to student success. All efforts to optimize a cohesive partnership with parents/school (i.e. School-Parent Compact) will be infused into the collaborative work at Johnson.
Community Partnerships
1) Tutoring/After-school enhancement programs (Whiz Kids, LEAP, and Lights On After School)
2) Resource/Financial support (Kiwanis Club and Pioneer Blue Spruce)
